Incapacity and other disabilities
“Prevention is better than cure”
The Ministry of Social Affairs organised a sensitisation campaign on the prevention, early detection and rehabilitation of disabilities at the Cardinal Paul Emile Leger National Centre for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities (CNRPH) on 28 November as part of the 33rd International Day of Disabled Persons. Chaired by Inspector General Asongtia Valentine Foreke, Personal Representative of the Minister of Social Affairs, and attended by CNRPH Deputy Director General Douglas Achingale, the campaign sensitised the public on the
need to prevent incapacity, carry out early detection of impairments and present disability rehabilitation initiatives.
MINAS, in its annual work plan for this year, plans to extend this activity with the support of its partners. A number of enriching presentations and exchanges took place during the meeting. The personal representative of MINAS stressed the importance of Law 2010/002 of 13 April 2010 on the protection and promotion of persons with disabilities, Article 6 of which states that (1) Prevention is any action aimed to prevent the occurrence of impairments. This includes medical,
motor, sensory and/or mental prevention or the reduction of functional limitations.
(2) The following are considered as preventive measures:
- social prevention to prevent disabilities.
