MINAS 2024 Annual Conference.

On Tuesday 20 February 2024, the Minister of Social Affairs, Pauline Irène NGUENE, presided over the opening ceremony of 2024 Annual Conference of Officials of Central and Devolved Services extended to supervised organisations of the Ministry of Social Affairs, under the theme:

“MINAS contribution to human capital development: Challenges and prospects on information and social statistics” in the Grand amphithéâtre Jacques Meunier, ENAM.

The aim of the two-day conference was to improve the performance, transparency and visibility of public policies implemented to prevent, support and protect socially vulnerable persons.

In his speech, the Minister of Social Affairs reminded his colleagues that “at the end of the meeting, the aim is to draw up a retrospective and, above all, a prospective assessment, which will provide us with the information we need to carry out effective and efficient government action at all levels.”

It also noted that information and social statistics play a crucial role in identifying and addressing social protection needs.  They provide reliable evidence, accessible to all, to design and guide social interventions, to serve as benchmarks for actors, to assess the impact of social change and to facilitate decision-making on priorities.

The 2024 Annual Conference takes place in a context of special considerations and events, both at the international and national levels.  At the international level, the 62nd session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development was recently held in New York.  Pauline Irène NGUENE led the Cameroonian delegation to this important meeting.

In declaring the 2024 Annual Conference open, the Government Member once again invited his colleagues to contribute fully to the two days of work, according to their experience and expertise, and to raise any concerns that may arise from the areas of interest that will be developed
