Improving the living conditions of Cameroonians in general is one of the government's priorities. The President of the Republic, H.E. Mr. Paul Biya, made this a key focus of his statement during the last presidential election on October 7, 2018. Furthermore, he promised to strengthen the fight against exclusion by systematically taking vulnerable groups into account in the implementation of public policies.
In its missions of prevention, assistance, and protection of socially vulnerable people, the Ministry of Social Affairs has chosen to boost social action through social entrepreneurship. This strategy aims to mobilize the additional resources necessary for the socioeconomic inclusion of Socially Vulnerable People (SVPs). This relates to two things: on the one hand, private social initiatives, and on the other, national solidarity. A foundation of protection that brings together all national and international stakeholders. Other tools are used to carry out our missions, such as the Program to Support the Social and Professional Integration and Reintegration of Vulnerable People (PAIRPEV). This program also includes a component, the Project to Support the Social and Professional Integration and Reintegration of Street Children (PAIRPER), which aims to remove street children from poverty and exclusion. Regarding people with disabilities, they are at the heart of social policy. The introduction of two decrees, signed by the Prime Minister and Head of Government on July 26, 2018, is a strong signal of the government's commitment. One reorganizes the National Committee for the Rehabilitation and Socioeconomic Reintegration of People with Disabilities, also known as CONRHA, and the other sets out the implementation procedures for Law No. 2010/002 of April 13, 2010, on the protection and promotion of people with disabilities. The goal is to develop the abundant talents and potential of people with disabilities, to ensure their empowerment, and to promote their full participation in all areas of our country's development.
And what about the elderly? The issue of aging is addressed in a National Action Plan so that our seniors, our elders, enjoy high regard and a privileged place in our society.
These are some of the pillars of social policy in Cameroon, for such a vast social sector.
